(Genesis 1:1)
In The Torah, Volume 1: A Verse-by-Verse Guide to Genesis, Tom Meyer provides insights into the historical and geographical settings of Genesis in order to deepen our understanding of this foundational book of the Bible. He gives us a glimpse of how the original audience understood Genesis by taking us to a world unlike our own in the West—a world where we find ourselves traveling in a camel caravan, dwelling in a tent, or securing water rights in the desert.
Tom Meyer has an M.A. in the Historical Geography of Israel and an M.A. in Middle East Culture and Religion from Jerusalem University College. He is currently a professor at Shasta Bible College and Graduate School in Redding, California. He’s a guest speaker at churches and conferences where he dramatically recites books of the Bible from memory, as well as the author of numerous Bible commentaries.
